Plagiarism according to the dictionary is the practice of taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as one’s own. According to Merriam-Webster, it means to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.
It is a pity that problem shared is no longer half-solved but now problem multiplied. I was triggered to write this article base on the high rate of plagiarists which a close friend of mine happen to be one of them. It is an ethical offence, some cases can even constitute copyright infringement. In this article, I am going to highlight the negative effects of plagiarism and how to avoid them.
THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS
Firstly, plagiarism can be an especially grave, career-destroying poison. It damage good reputation, people will start to question your integrity. Professional person, businessman or a politician can have their image totally tarnished due to plagiarism.
Another demerit of it is losing your hard-earned if you are being sued for the evil act. Many times the compensation is in monetary. It should be noted that plagiarism is a serious offence and are not taking lightly under the law._
As a student, you can be suspended or even given expulsion for coping other people’s work. This ethical violation remains on a student’s permanent record. No school or workplace will admit such student.
